James Irvin "Jimmy" Merritt

Mr. James Irvin ""Jimmy"" Merritt, 65, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born June 10, 1951 in Forsyth County to the late Lillian Mae Craver Merritt and Aubrey Thomas Merritt, Sr. Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army and later served 12 years in the NC National Guard. He retired from R. J. Reynolds as the supervisor of 603 in 2007 with 38 years of service. Jimmy was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by three brothers: Bobby, Harvey, and Rickey Merritt. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cindy Merritt; son, Chris Merritt; daughter, Tena Merritt; two grandsons, Tyler and Toby Merritt; two siblings: Aubrey Thomas Merritt, Jr. (Mary) and Jeanne Merritt (Mark); two brothers-in-law, Dixon Parrish (Eunice) and Davey Parrish (Cindy); sister-in-law, Sandra Cain (Fred); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at King Memorial Park with Pastor Gary Styers officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
