James (Coty) Nelson has been made whole again! Alleluia! Throughout 20 ½ years, Coty was most certainly never spoiled, but he was well-loved, constantly advocated for, and tenderly cared for by his legal guardians (also his foster parents for 17 ½ years prior) John David Kinley, Jr. and RuthMarie nee Witker Kinley. He was well-known for sharing his love, joy and zest for life with many other people during his 21 years of life on earth, including Lutheran Family Services, Children's Home Society, his many special doctors, his very special Bayada Home Health Nurses, his teachers, therapists, nurses and administrators during his school years in Winston-Salem (The Special Children's School, The Children's Center for the Physically Handicapped, Lowrance Middle School, and Carter Vocational High School, where he was a senior this year), as well as the pastors and congregations of Nazareth and Augsburg Lutheran churches, and Ruth's ""Thinking Outside the Box"" cohorts at the Shepherd's Center. Other special events he thoroughly enjoyed being a part of include attending 3 Canadian Brass concerts (and meeting the members of that quintet) in his lifetime, and floating with a dolphin named Dexter during his Make-a-Wish trip to Discovery Cove and Give Kids the World (strawberry ice cream for breakfast!) Coty was preceded in death by his birth father. In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Kinley, he was loved by members of his birth parents' families, and especially the Witker and Kinley extended families scattered over OH, IL, NC, GA, and FL. David and Ruth wish to thank specially Drs. Kurt L. Klinepeter, ""Kat"" Kolaski, Anthony Atala, Victor Ortega, and the many other doctors and nurses of Brenner and Baptist Hospitals, Bayada Nurses, and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their tender medical care and compassion for Coty, and for their supportiveness in walking with us on our journey during the 20 ½ years of his special life with us. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, NC, and also at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, where inurnment will take place.
