Our beloved husband, father and pawpaw James "Jimmy" R. Norrell of Winston-Salem, NC and Lakeland, FL, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. He was born June 20, 1935, to the late Nina Rochelle and James L. Norrell. Jimmy graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended Gardner Webb College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served our country with most of his tour in Germany. He retired from RJR Archer as a Mechanical Engineer after 34 years of service. Daddy's nature wouldn't let him sit still in retirement, so he happily spent the next 11 years as a school bus driver for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. Daddy enjoyed years of square dancing and RV'ing with friends and family and "snowbirding" in Lakeland, Florida. He was a member of Hanes Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. He loved God, his country and his family unconditionally with all his heart. Daddy was the most selfless, humble, kind and caring man. He was our hero and will be greatly missed, and we know he is in Heaven and no longer in pain.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy N. Ashe. Surviving Jimmy are his wife of almost 60 years, Peggy H. Norrell of the home; daughter, Denise R. Norrell; son, Michael D. Norrell (Debra); grandchildren, Patricia Norrell(Curtis), Amber Cranfill, Adam Norrell(Bailey), and Kayla Norrell; great-grandchildren, Cain Black, Brynn Black, Dominic Moyer, and Avaleigh Norrell; and his special 4-legged pal Teddy.
A service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel led by Pastor Jason Holley and Rev. Larry Walker. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will occur immediately following the service with full military honors at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7029 Albert Pick Rd Ste. 200, Greensboro, NC 27409.
