James Ashby Percival

James Ashby Percival, 94, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on Sunday, February 8, 2026. James was born on October 22, 1931, to William Lee Percival and Stella Williams Percival in Winston-Salem. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 30+ years of service. James was a devoted Christian at Church of Christ preaching at several churches for 62 years always putting Christ first. He loved working in his wood working shop and fishing at the coast and local lakes. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed watching Duke Basketball. James will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature and his devotion to Jesus. James was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Betty Grubbs Percival; parents, William Lee Percival and Stella Williams Percival of Winston Salem, N.C. and sisters, Virgina Percival Rupard of Boone, NC and Rebecca Percival of Winston Salem, N.C. Surviving are his children, Susan Percival Huey (Mike), Jimmy Percival (Terri Mills Percival), and Tim Percival (Lynn); 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and 3 great great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Jerry Nifong, Jerry Williams, and Terry Christie officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral from 12:00-2:00 PM. Interment will follow the funeral service and will be at Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ Graveyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ Graveyard Fund, 798 South Peace Haven Rd. Winston Salem, NC 27103.
