James Sells

Kernersville - Mr. James Franklin Sells, 86, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. James was born on May 1, 1931 to William Howard and Floy Smith Sells in Forsyth County, NC. He was an active member of Union Cross Moravian Church where he previously served as Head Diener, was on the Graveyard Committee and BSA Troop 729 Committee, and had been a junior high youth leader. After 20 years of service with Union Cross Volunteer Fire Department, he retired as Deputy Chief. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955. James retired from RJR Tobacco Company with 31 years of service. He also enjoyed league bowling. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two grandsons, Corey Matthew Sells and Trevor Chase Hensdale; and two brothers, Archie Linville Sells and Norman Lee Sells. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Idol Sells; one daughter, Pamela Sells Hensdale (Richard); one son, Philip Sells; three grandchildren, Tyler Drew Hensdale, Zachary Blain Sells, and Tara Nicole Sells; one great grandchild, Chase Wylder Hensdale; two nephews, Ronald Earl Sells (Cathy) and Robert Lee Sells; one niece, Beth Tucker (Tom Westmoreland); one great nephew, Tanner Wyatt Boyles (Liz); one great niece, Amber Boyles Stephens (Josh); and one great great niece, Clara Mae Stephens; and several other loving family members and longtime friends. A funeral service for Mr. Sells will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Union Cross Moravian Church with Rev. Russ Williams officiating. Interment will follow the service at Union Cross Moravian Church in God's Acre. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Cross Moravian Church Graveyard fund at 4295 High Point Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Union Cross Volunteer Fire and Rescue at 4401 High Point Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284.
