James Thomas Westmoreland passed away at home on his beloved farm March 15, 2018. He was born in the City View Community of Winston-Salem to Ray Arthur Westmoreland and Thelma Pitts Westmoreland. Many fondly referred to him as "Jimbo", but he also earned the name "Hoss" for his strong work ethic. He was preceded in death by his parents and three younger brothers, Ray "Babe" Westmoreland, Jr., Richard "Rick" Westmoreland, and Calvin "Kip" Westmoreland. He was educated in the local schools and then joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served his country proudly. After returning from the war, he worked for Western Electric and then 14 years with the Winston-Salem Police Department. In 1967, he became self-employed and founded J. Westmoreland, Inc. that has been serving this area for over 50 years.
James T. is survived by the love of his life for over 61 years, Elizabeth Holland Westmoreland. Their love was a special pride of the family and grew more fondly with time. Also surviving are their three children, Thomas (Beth Tucker) Westmoreland, Amy (Dean) Davis, and Sarah (Walt) Hutchings. Later in life, James T. earned the name "Papa" and had the apples of his eye grandchildren, Jessie and Dalton Hutchings. His is also survived by an extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews; with one special niece Miss Melody Jane.
As long as health permitted James T. enjoyed his life on the farm with his family, cows and gardening. He was an avid fisherman and made many trips to the Coast with the Linville family. He looked forward to his monthly City View Breakfasts. James T. loved the Lord and he loved his church, attending faithfully sitting on the 3rd row. He will be deeply missed by his family and so many close friends.
