James “Jim” Leland Stanner, 95, recent resident of Bermuda Village, joined his beloved wife, Darlene, on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. He is now in the arms of his Lord and Savior. Jim served his country as a U.S. Marine in WWII and Korea. He retired from Western Electric after 40 years. Jim was also Past Master of Piedmont Pioneer #685 and a member of John J. Mercer Lodge in Omaha, Nebraska. He spent his retirement years clowning around as “Cheesecake” with the Oasis Shrine Clown Unit, square dancing throughout the country and entertaining friends and staff at K&W Cafeteria. His songs, jokes and ready smile will be missed by the many people he came in contact with. Jim is survived by his sons, Mike (Sharon) Stanner of Omaha, NE and John (Joanne) Stanner of Brainard, NE; daughter, Sheri (Mo) Collette of Lewisville, NC; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Steiner of Chesapeake, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in Winston-Salem, with Pastor Russell Peek officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:45 – 3:45 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial and full military honors will take place later in the week in Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Epiphany: 5220 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
