James "Rowdy" Grady Powers

Mr. James “Rowdy” Grady Powers, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at his home. Mr. Powers was born on February 6, 1937, in Robeson County to Fannie Britt Powers and Avery Millard Powers. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rachel, Louise, Kathleen, Judith and Frances, and his brothers, Matthew, Avery and Thomas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kaye; devoted children: daughter, Hannah and husband Brian Allen; son, James Powers, Jr. and wife Michelle; three beloved granddaughters, Avery, Blakely and Catherine; and many special nieces and nephews.

Rowdy lived his life to the fullest and loved nothing more than being with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed sharing his huge vegetable garden. Rowdy loved everyone and everyone loved him. Thanksgiving at the farm, summer trips to Wrightsville beach and visiting his relatives were highlights in his life. After high school graduation, Rowdy attended Louisburg College and proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from Roadway Express after completing 34 years of service. A long time member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, Rowdy was faithful in attendance until his health failed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandra Ireson and the Rev. Dr. Chris Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paul F. Evans Scholarship Fund in memory of Rowdy Powers to Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC 27295. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
