Mr. Jan Douglas Ragsdale, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born March 8, 1938, in Trimble, TN, to the late Herbert Wilson “Butchie” Ragsdale and Rebecca Ruth Parker Ragsdale.
After his service in the Army, Jan graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as an Industrial Engineer. In 1965 he married his beautiful wife, Lois Lockett Ragsdale, who preceded him in death. They moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where he worked for RJ Reynolds directly upon graduation until retirement. He was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church since 1966. He was a member of several industrial organizations, Kiwanis, and a very active member of his church. Mr. Ragsdale was an avid University of Tennessee fan and loved anything planes, trains, and automobiles. He also loved to fish, often having many excursions with his friends both at the beach and lake. He was jovial, had a great sense of humor, always had a helping hand, and loved the Lord. He loved his friends and family and always had a social engagement to attend. He loved Christmas just as much as his wife, Lois, and the joys of the seasons, and always good cooking. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, Christian, and volunteer.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara Ragsdale Eskridge and husband Joseph Dixon Eskridge, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA; son, Scott Edward Ragsdale and his significant other, Rene Thurman of Knoxville, TN; three granddaughters, Emmaline Woodley Eskridge, Elizabeth Walker Eskridge, and Ella Webb Eskridge; his cousin, Charles Ragsdale; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
