Jane Thomas Bellamy, 88, died September 30,2016 after suffering a stroke. Born January 16,1928, in Winston-Salem,NC she was the daughter of Freeman John Thomas and Mary Johnston Thomas, attended Old Town School and graduated from Women's College of the University of NC with a degree in music. She pursued graduate work at Appalachian State Teachers College and immediately thereafter taught music to grades 1-12 at Old Town School. She simultaneously began a lifelong avocation as organist and choir director at Lee Memorial Presbyterian,Friedberg Moravian, Olivet Moravian,Bethabara Moravian, Fairview Moravian and Providence Moravian Churches. She taught private piano lessons to hundreds of students and served as substitute organist for many churches in Winston-Salem. She had a beautiful soprano voice that she shared on innumerable special occasions. Her home was always open to family, friends, church and community. The back porch of her home off Reynolda Rd, a residence she and her husband built on the property where she was raised, was a favorite gathering place for her children, family and their friends. She loved flowers,never forgot to send a card celebrating special occasions in the life of her family and friends, and greatly enjoyed her garden. Jane was predeceased by her husband William Griffin Bellamy. She is survived by children Sarah Bellamy Harden (Holmes) and granddaughter Bellamy Abbott Harden of Raleigh, NC, Freeman Thomas Bellamy of Atlanta,Ga, brother Emory Augustus Thomas(Mary), nieces Christine Parsons (Steve), Susan Geis(John),Kathryn McMorris(Scott) and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be October 8 from 11:00-12:30pm followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm at Providence Moravian Church,929 Old Hollow Rd,Winston-Salem,NC. Graveside service to follow God's Acre at Bethabara Moravian Church, Old Town Dr, Winston-Salem,NC. In lieu of flowers send memorials to your charity choice.
