Jane Hill Clarkson

Jane Hill Clarkson, 82, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Tuesday July 2nd, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Jane was born June 20th, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from John Burroughs High School Class of 1949 and went on to receive an Economics Degree at Vassar in 1953 and an MA in Art at Washington University. She was a talented artist who worked predominantly in copper. She excelled in tennis, as well as, track & field at John Burroughs & in 1987 won 7 gold medals in the Senior Olympics. Her love of music was passed on to her children and she was an active member in the ""Sweet Adelines"" barbershop group in St. Louis and The Triad Region. Jane resided at Arbor Acres Retirement Community in Winston Salem for the past 3 ½ years where she forged many friendships including a special group of friends at the Arbor Acres pool hall. Affectionately referred to as ""Jane Jane"" by her children & grandchildren, ""Jane Jane"" was a free spirit with a love of nature, who was passionate about the simple pleasures in life. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and collection of art, critters and ""treasures"". Jane was the 3rd daughter of the late Maury & Lela Hill. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lela Burgwin. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Robinson, brother, Maury Hill, the father of their three children, John T. Clarkson Jr., their 3 children: Jinni Shafer, Laurie Rhyne & John T. Clarkson III. She had 9 grandchildren: RJ, Elijah, Moriah & Susan Shafer, Christopher, Patrick, & Kacy Rhyne, Palmer & Cole Clarkson. And last, but not least, survived by KD, the Shih Tsu, whom she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at Arbor Acres in Robinson Hall on Tuesday, July 16th at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Kate B.
