Janet Guinn Gerlinger, 87, of Bermuda Village passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. She was born July 13, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to Janet Jenkins and Verner Wilkins Guinn. After her father died in 1932 she and her mother moved to New Kensington, PA where she received her public school education. After high school she attended Ohio Wesleyan University for three years. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. At college she met her future husband, Richard Allen Gerlinger. They married August 12, 1950. She finished college at the University of Toledo and graduated with a BA Education degree in 1952. Over her lifetime she did volunteer work at Toledo Hospital in various departments and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir. Janet also did various volunteering at Ottawa Hills Schools where her children attended. After raising her family in Toledo, OH she and Richard built a home on a lake in Keowee Key, SC where they did Meals on Wheels for 8 years. Later they moved to Bermuda Village Retirement Community in Bermuda Run, NC. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her children, Bruce A Gerlinger (Sue) of Advance, NC, Lynn G Sutherland (Stephen) of Stevensville, MT, Lisa Gerlinger of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Sarah Sutherland (Josh) of Seattle, WA, Ian Sutherland (Gretchen) of Missoula, MT, Greer Weaver and Graydon Weaver of Swanton, OH; great grandchild, Nellie Sutherland of Missoula, MT; and her devoted aide and friend, Kendra Hunter. A Private memorial service will be held at a later date.
