Janet Louise Reid Wright, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with her children by her side.

Janet was born to the late Lollie Elizabeth Ray Reid and Charles Hamilton Reid on an army base in Japan, on March 6, 1955.

While living in California, Janet utilized her degree in nursing from UNC Wilmington to work in healthcare. Upon returning to Winston-Salem, NC, and as most will fondly remember, she spent the majority of her career operating Wright’s Backyard Birding Center off of Country Club Road. The bird shop was not only her profession, but an integral part of her and her family’s life.

Anyone that had the pleasure to know Janet knew of her passions. She fiercely loved her three children, visiting the beach any time she could, dancing like nobody was watching, her many rescue dogs, and above all, never taking life too seriously. She could always find the humor and love in any situation and was truly a bright light for all those around her.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beth Reid. Surviving are her children, Erin Wright, Devin Wright, and Collin Wright; grandson, James Wright; and siblings, Fred Reid, George Reid and Judy Robertson.

Per Janet’s wishes and in lieu of a formal service, her family will be gathering at her favorite beach to scatter her ashes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breakthrough T1D (Formerly JDRF) to support further research of Type 1 Diabetes.
