Janice Ree Motsinger at the age of 64, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, under hospice care at her home. She had been fighting Ovarian Cancer for the past two and half years. Her last place of employment was in accounting for the Salvation Army, Winston Salem. She graduated from University of Alabama (Huntsville) with a BA degree in accounting. After receiving her degree, she had an interest in the arts, especially writing, so moved to New York, where she had an opportunity to work for the New York Times, Escada (fashion designer), and a Publishing Clearinghouse. She was passionate about writing at that time, particularly poetry. Feeling homesick for Alabama, she moved back to Huntsville where she worked as an accountant at Huntsville Rehabilitation Foundation. Janice will be missed for her calm, even-tempered demeanor and strength she exemplified in her work and passion for life. Jan was never married but had a love of animals, in particular cats. She has left behind her cat, Bo, whom she adopted from our dad, while caring for dad in his last year of life. Jan has also left behind the last of our remaining family and oldest sister, Bobbie Mandro, her niece, Jackie Moore, grandniece, Kailey Moore, Jackie’s spouse, R.J. Moore. A warm thanks and gratitude goes out to Tom Long, who was a dear friend of our dad’s, who provided loving care and attention for Jan during her fight with cancer over these past two and half years. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 20, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The service will be officiated by Majors Julie and Chuck Whiten, Salvation Army, Winston Salem, NC. Donations can be sent to P.O. Salvation Army, Box, I205, Winston Salem, NC, 27102.
