Janis Kay Lawson Tuttle

Janis “Kay” Lawson Tuttle, 87, was born on March 18, 1939, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Hobert and Evoline Lawson. She passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026, following a brief illness. Kay held several jobs throughout her life, but she would say her favorite was working as a 2nd grade Teacher’s Assistant at Germanton Elementary School. She enjoyed playing the piano, all types of music, reading, gardening, and just working around the house and in the yard. Once the grandsons came along, there were ball games, scouting activities, band concerts and many other things that kept her busy. She attended Corinth Church of Christ for many years before joining Rural Hall Christian Church in 1984, where she attended as long as her health allowed. Because of her love for music, she served as the Choir Director at her church for many years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Max” Tuttle. She is survived by her son, Kerry Tuttle and wife Sandy; daughter, Lesa Hudgins and husband Tim; three grandsons, Joshua Hudgins (Hayley), Nicholas Tuttle, and Jordan Hudgins (Kayla), and seven great-grandchildren, Riley, Levi, Landyn, Simon, Willa, Harrison, and Edith. In addition, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Norris, brother-in-law, Don Collins, and several special cousins and friends. The family would like to thank those who have helped Kay over the past several months, the staff at Village Care of King, Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove, and especially the Physicians, Nurses, and other staff at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm Friday July 31, 2026, at Rural Hall Christian Church with Ron Voss, Minister, Peter Cain, Minister, and Wesley McCarter, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday July 30, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC, 27017. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen. Job 1:21.
