Mr. Jay Van Welch, 83 of Lexington, NC passed away Monday December 22, 2014. Jay was born February 23, 1931 in Davidson County to the late Hobert Andrew and Amanda Sue Nifong Welch. He was a US Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served 19 ½ years and also, served in the National Guard for 14 years. Jay retired from J.S.C/CCA after 41 years of service and also served with the Winston-Salem Police Department as a Reserve for 14 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; Rodney Dale Welch, three brothers and a sister. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Natalie Frazier Welch of the home, two sons; Daniel Keith Welch of Lexington, Arthur Dean Welch of Walkertown, NC., a granddaughter; Sara Rene Welch of Mt. Airy, NC, two brothers; William Buford Welch of Winston-Salem, NC, Hobert Claxton Welch of Charlotte, NC and two sisters; Maxine W. Tesh and Leona W. Fishel both of Winston-Salem. The Funeral Service will be conducted 12:30 pm Friday, December 26, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Chaplain David Kolb and Chaplain Rennie Adcock. A Graveside Service will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
