Jean Marie Paddock Butala

Jean Marie Butala, a longtime resident of White Lake, MI and most recently Lexington, NC, passed on to her eternal life to be with the Lord on February 16, 2026, at the age of 81.

Jean was born on February 7, 1945, in Detroit, MI to James Wilbur and Mary Jane Paddock. She was the first born of seven children – Jean, Judith, Jane Gale, James, Joyce, Joanne, and Joseph. Jean was employed with New Horizon’s Rehabilitation Services in Oakland County, MI, for 38 years and retired as the I.T. Director.

Jean had two children, Peter Paul Butala IV and Theresa Marie Arguelles, and a doting and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Isabella, Andrew, Brennen, and Keira.

Jean loved to learn, laugh, read, paint, and shop. There was nothing as important to Jean as her family, and those who knew her saw first-hand the many sacrifices she made for them. She was a woman of substantial moral fiber, independence, stubbornness, and Irish wit.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Robert Paddock.

In addition to her two children, Peter and Theresa, and her four grandchildren, Jean is survived by four sisters, and one brother.

Jean left behind an enormous personal legacy for the many lives she touched. And although she will be sorely missed on Earth, her foundational belief in the birth, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ has welcomed her into His presence.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, in Winston-Salem, NC, with Rev. Francis Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
