Jean Mayes Parrish

WALNUT COVE, NC-Mrs. Jean Mayes Parrish, 72, of Walnut Cove, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Parrish was born on July 4, 1941 in Forsyth County, NC to William Cleave Mayes and Wilma Boger Mayes. She was a life-long member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Belews Creek, NC. Jean retired from Brendle's Department Store. She always enjoyed playing softball for Brendle's in the Winston-Salem City Softball League. Jean liked to go camping, fishing and she was an avid NASCAR fan. She was a big fan of Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Richard Petty. Preceding Mrs. Parrish in death were her parents. She is survived by her husband, Bill Parrish of the home; two sons, Tony Parrish of Winston-Salem and Eric Parrish (Stephanie) of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Susan Griffin (Bo) of Kernersville, NC; three grandchildren, Jennifer Knowles of Kernersville, NC, Timmy Parrish and Erica Parrish, both of Winston-Salem; two step-grandchildren, Chase Handshoe and Jessie Perryman; two great-grandchildren, Camden Griffin and Alysah Pope; one brother, Jerry ""Bub"" Mayes (Edna) of King, NC; and a special lifetime friend, Carlene Wood and her family. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Lattimore and Mr. Rob Oglesby officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of nurses in the NICU Department of Forsyth Medical Center for the care they provided to Jean during her illness.
