Jean Duncan Rendleman, retired teacher, of Columbia, S.C., passed away peacefully August 16, 2012 after a brief stay at the Lutheran Home in Salisbury, N.C., as Almighty God in His wisdom and mercy called unto Himself our sister in Christ. She had suffered in recent years from several illnesses. She was born Jean Perkins Duncan on September 8, 1928, in Elkton, Md., third child of the late David Smiley Duncan, Sr., and Selina Perkins Duncan. She grew up in Narberth, Pa., where she graduated from Lower Merion High School. During World War Two, Jean served as an eager volunteer in the Navy League. She entered Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., where she met her husband of 61 years, Charles Alexander Rendleman, Sr. She married Charlie in Valley Forge Chapel, in Valley Forge, Pa., and accompanied him as his business and legal career took them through the Carolinas, on to Washington, D.C., and finally to Columbia. Jean received a Bachelor's degree from Catawba and had her own career in education. She was particularly admired for taking on the challenge of teaching home-bound students who were unable to attend regular school due to debilitating illnesses or other conditions. While in her 40's, she joined Charlie and the rest of the Rendleman family in their passion for golf. She was a member at several country clubs in the area, and was much envied by the rest of the family as she scored three holes-in-one. She was beloved by her grandchildren and was affectionately known as their ""Mama Jean"". All knew her to be most kind, generous and loving. Jean was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers, David S. Duncan, Jr., and William H. Duncan, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia S. Rendleman. She is survived by sons, Dr. Charles A. Rendleman, Jr. (Cheryl) of Princeton Junction, N.J., retired Air Force Colonel and attorney, James D. Rendleman (Kay) of Colorado Springs, Co., and William D. Rendleman, CPA, of Clemmons, N.C., and seven wonderful grand-children. Mrs. Rendleman was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with interment at 2:00 p.m. in the Westlawn Gardens of Memory, 6135 Ridgecrest Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
