Mrs. Jean Mae Spaugh Upchurch, 81, of King, passed away on February 3, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on May 8, 1935 in Forsyth County to Claude Eugene and Lula Gay Nemmings Spaugh. Jean was a member of Woodland Baptist Church for the past 30 years. She retired from Baptist Hospital with 20 years of loyal service. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, and writing. Jean was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Jack Kearns and Bobby Upchurch; a son, Larry Ray; two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Annie Santiago. She is survived by four sons, Bobby Kearns and wife Janet Sue of Walnut Cove, Ron Kearns of Winston-Salem, Steve Kearns and wife Teresa of Thomasville and Gary Upchurch Sr. and wife Ann of Eden; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; one sister, Winnie Harris and husband Jack of Winston-Salem and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 6, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tim Gammons and Rev. Michael Kearns officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC or Village Care of King, 440 Ingram Dr. King, NC.
