Mr. Jerry D. Hartman, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following an arduous, seventeen month battle with cancer. He was born July 3, 1941 in Forsyth County to Clifton Eugene & Mary Josephine Smith Hartman, the eldest of two sons. Following graduation from Griffith High, he was employed at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, then married his high-school sweetheart Martha Lee Hartman, on September 22, 1962. Jerry loved to fish, and was a longtime partner in the Clemmons Tackle Shop business. Enjoying the intricate details of refurbishing and repairing vintage reels, even as his health declined, there was always a reel spread out on the counter awaiting his skilled hands. Jerry loved buying and selling at auctions, but loved a good fish tale even better. He retired from Reynolds in 1995 to care for Martha, who after extended illness preceded him in death in 2004. Surviving are his two sons JD Hartman (Robin) and Andrew Hartman (Bethany), a daughter Debby Hartman, as well as his brother Gene Hartman and five grandchildren, Madelyn, Jackson, Brandy, Clinton and McKenna, along with five great-grandchildren. Jerry enjoyed a full life, blessing his family and many long-time friends with his quick smile and mischievous sense of humor.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. A private graveside service will be held Thursday November 13, 2025. The Hartman family deeply appreciates the loving care and support received by all Hospice staff over the last nine months, and request consideration of a memorial contribution.
