Jerry Wayne Goodman, 79, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, four days after celebrating his birthday.
Born in Wilmington, NC, on July 7, 1946, Jerry grew up in Shelby, NC. Over the years, he lived in several places that shaped his life, including Eastern Tennessee and Winston-Salem, NC, before settling in Cornelius, where he spent the last 18 months of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Welton Goodman and Margaret Marie Goodman; his beloved wife of 37 years, Janet Goodman; his daughter, Jennifer Rippy; and his sister, Peggy Goodman French.
Jerry is survived by his brother, Ronnie Goodman, and his sister, Shirley Stamey, both of Shelby, NC; his stepson, Travis Hunter and wife Liz, along with their children Cason and Collins of Huntersville, NC; his stepson, Todd Hunter of Kernersville, NC; his grandson, Jay Rippy; and his cherished dog, Ginny, who was always by his side.
Jerry built a successful career in the textile industry, working with companies such as BASF, Sara Lee, and Unifi. His work allowed him to travel the world—an experience he embraced with curiosity and appreciation.
A proud graduate of NC State University, Jerry was a lifelong Wolfpack fan. He loved fishing, restoring historic cars, and could often be found tinkering with projects in the garage or fixing things around the house. A true movie enthusiast, he enjoyed relaxing evenings watching his favorite films.
Jerry had a special appreciation for the simple joys of life, especially the time he spent with neighbors. He was known for his friendly conversations, genuine interest in others, and how he made time to stop and chat or drop by for a visit. He built strong connections in every community he lived in, and those friendships meant the world to him.
Though not formally part of a church, Jerry had a quiet faith and belief in God that guided his values and relationships.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home. A small graveside burial will follow at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church.
Jerry will be remembered for his steady presence, quick wit, and deep love for his family, friends, and four-legged companion. His life leaves a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and connection.
