Jerry Holt

Mr. Jerry Franklin Holt, 78, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023.  He was born August 2, 1944, in Forsyth County to the late Walter and Grace Holt.

He worked at various jobs including the animal shelter in Winston-Salem and had a love for dogs and would be known to come home with one quite often.  He also owned his own Fence Building Company, but his greatest accomplishment was starting his own Bail Bond business 40 years ago called Holt's Bonding Company but finally decided to retire in 2022.

Later in life when he wasn't working his passion became dancing the Carolina Shag where he competed on the CSA circuit for years and also owned his own shag club and started his own shag contest.  He was also a member for years of the Winston-Salem Shag Club in Winston-Salem, NC and OD Shag Club in North Myrtle Beach, SC.  One of his other biggest accomplishments was being inducted in the National Living Legends of Dance November 2016.

His other true love was being a deejay on the radio at North Myrtle Beach, SC on WNMB as "BIG DADDY" on the weekends.  He was also instrumental in bringing WTOB back on the radio and owned another radio station called WSMX.  Jerry then started his own internet show called bigdaddybringiton.com where you could listen to him every week.

If Jerry wasn't working or on the radio/internet or shagging, his other love was taking his boat out at Little River, SC and fishing the day away with friends or his daughter Penny and son-in-law Mickey and coming back and telling us all their wild "fish stories"!

Jerry would then go dancing at night on the weekends at "Fat Harolds" which became his second home!  He loved dancing and also helping Penny and Mickey teach the Carolina Shag for several years.  During the week, he enjoyed going to the various dance events around town and out of town.  He will definitely be missed by not seeing him out dancing or hearing him on his internet radio show.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, David Lee “Buddy” Holt.  He is survived by his daughter, Penny Holt Hull (Mickey); brother, Harrold Thomas “Tommy” Holt (Pat); and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be conducted 5:00 PM Friday, March 31st at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Harvey and Pastor Jim Bush officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
