Jerry Eugene Kast

Jerry Eugene Kast at age 92, passed away on May 22, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with his wife, Nancy, by his side. He was born in Fulton County, Ohio, on May 17, 1934, to George A. and Marjorie Lane Kast. 

On September 6, 1952, he married Nancy Ann Potter, his high school sweetheart. They were inseparable from the beginning. They had a wonderful life of 73 years together.

In 1953 they settled in Adrian, Michigan, where they raised their family of four children: sons, Michael Alan, Mark Steven and daughters, Virginia Lynn and Michelle Ann. They attended the Presbyterian Church. Jerry was devoted to his family, attending school and social functions and sporting and musical events of the children. He collected antique clocks and trains and many unusual antiques. He loved his job and the people he worked with and retired from Aget Mfg. after 36 years. His dream of living in Florida to spend his retirement years was fulfilled where they lived for 27 years.

While in Florida, they grew tropical plants to show competitively and attended yearly conventions traveling to almost all the US states and toured several countries in Europe. Each year volunteering in the Arts and Floral Exhibits Bldg at the Florida State Fair. The trip of their lifetime was to Ecuador with botanist, John L. Clark, to find new species of gesneriads.

In earlier years they raised rabbits, showing competitively across the country. Many awards were won for their beautiful rabbits along with making lifelong friends. Jerry and Nancy recently moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, closer to their daughter, Virginia (Richard) Coon and granddaughter, Lindy (Devin) Simon. He has 10 grandchildren; Alan, Hillary (Chris), Nathan (Wendy), Matthew (Hailey), Robert (Ashleigh), Diane (Phil), Lindy (Devin), Dan, Steven, and Andrew (Jackie), and fifteen great grandchildren. 

Mr. Kast is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; two children, Michael (Audrey) Kast and Virginia (Richard) Coon; sisters, Sally, Cheri, and brothers Gary (MaryJo) and Rex.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his son, Mark and daughter, Michelle, along with his sister, Eloise, and brother Harry. His brother Larry also passed away on May 22, 2026.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
