Jerry Lee Warf

Mr. Jerry Lee Warf, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born December 5, 1929 in Russell Co., VA the son of the late Lawrence Lee Warf and Lena Hicks Warf. Mr. Warf was a loving husband, daddy, ""Pop"", brother and friend who will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He was retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies with 31 years of service. Mr. Warf proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Virgie Warf of the home, his daughter, Lea Shortell (Jeff) of Walnut Cove, two grandsons, Matthew Gibson (Shannon) of Kernersville and Brandon Gibson (Amy) of Walnut Cove, four great-grandchildren, Braden, Justin, Justice and Kara-Rose, a sister, Estelle Austin of Kingsport, TN, a brother, Bill Warf (Betty) of Rural Hall and his special dogs, Nikki and Naddie. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Calvin Nelson (Doris) of Pinnacle, a sister-in-law, Ruby Nelson of Bluefield, VA and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A service of entombment with military rites will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: American Heart Association or Winston-Salem Relay for Life. The family would like to thank Dr. William Sullivan, their ""Knight in Shining Armor"" and the nursing staff of Forsyth Medical Center ICU, for the special care provided to the family. They would also like to thank his special friend, Lynn Kiger, whose kindness will never be forgotten and the caregivers from Senior Quality Care, Jeannie Southern and Tammy Vaughn.
