Jesse Leonard Haizlip, Sr.

OAK RIDGE -- Mr. Jesse Leonard Haizlip, Sr., 94, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Leonard was born on May 8, 1919 in Henry County, VA to Earnest and Rosa Barker Haizlip. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Leonard retired in 1981 from Lorillard Tobacco Company after 25 years of service and was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Louise Haizlip, of the home; three daughters, Doris Smith (Rhonnie) of Lynchburg, VA, Jan Williams of Lynchburg, VA, and Cathy McKinney (Randy) of Burlington; two sons, Leonard Haizlip, Jr. (JoAnne) of Burlington and Elwood Haizlip (Suzanne) of Seattle, WA; one step-daughter, Margaret Sue Watson of Oak Ridge; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Shining Light Baptist Church with Rev. Billy McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
