Jesse Dennie Nelson Sr.

Jesse Nelson of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

He was born 96 years ago, in Surry County, to the late Peter Riley Nelson and Daisy Lynch Nelson.

Jesse was a warm and good-natured man who was a friend to many. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who retired from Roadway Express after 38 years of service. Jesse was a man of great faith and was a faithful and longstanding member of Oaklawn Baptist Church.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Gallman Nelson. He is survived by his children, J. Dennie Nelson, Jr., Kathy Warren (Bob), Dorothy Carter (Tim White) and Jenny Odom (Alton); and a brother, Spencer Nelson of Pilot Mountain.

His family wishes to thank the staff of Trellis Supportive Care and the clinicians and nurses of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hematology/Oncology- 3rd floor Cancer Center for their exemplary care and the compassion and kindnesses shown.

A graveside service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
