On Wednesday November 19, 2014 at 10:45 AM Jessie Mae Whitley Kiger, 92, earned her butterfly wings, flew away to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jessie passed peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem surrounded by her loving family. Jessie was born August 20, 1922 in Davidson County to William McKinley Whitley and Ollie Beeson Whitley. She graduated from Wallburg School. Jessie married Henry McCoy Kiger on June 1, 1950. She was a faithful member of Jefferson Church of Christ and was loved and cherished by her church family. She loved the Lord and kept her faith in Him. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 35 years of service. A tireless worker who never called in sick and seldom took a break from work. Jessie was a collector of antiques and absolutely loved yard sales, baseball, scrabble, cooking, attending church, and spending time with family and friends. She attended Hillsville Labor Day Flea Market annually for 37 years. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 36 years, Henry M. Kiger; two sisters, Helen Hayworth and Eva Bostic; one brother, John Whitley; a son-in-law, Roger Carl Oakes. She is survived by four children, Vickie Kiger Oakes, Dennis McCoy Kiger and wife Pattie, Randall Keith Kiger and wife Ivy; and Robin Gayle Kiger; four grandchildren, Jason Oakes and wife Janna, Jennifer Mabe and husband Eddie, Amy Kiger, Rachel Worthan and husband Jason; four great grandchildren, Emily Payne, Dylan Payne, Nickolas Mabe, and Isaak Mabe; two sisters, Inez Johnson and Lucille Royall; and a wonderful host of nieces and nephews; a very special niece, Becky Martin; a very special sister-in-law, Carell Jean Kiger, a special family friend, Roy N. Eddleman. A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Jefferson Church of Christ with Ministers Steve Cook, Peter Cain, and Walter Brewer officiating. Jessie will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.
