Jimmie Jones Whitaker

Mrs. Jimmie Lee Jones Whitaker, 87, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Stokes Co. on March 3, 1929 the daughter of the late Wyatt Clifton Jones and Myra Hazel Wall Jones. Jimmie grew up in Palmyra United Methodist Church and later joined Hickory Ridge United Methodist when she moved to Winston-Salem. She retired from Integon Insurance in Winston-Salem with nearly 40 years of service. She and her husband were longtime members of the Wake Forest Deacon Club and she loved to play bridge. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob L. ""Jake"" Whitaker; a sister, Marie Collins and two brothers, Billy Gray Jones and Francis Glenn Jones. Jimmie is survived by her siblings, Kemp Jones, Earnestine J. Boles (Bobby), Hilda J. Carroll (Leroy) and Larry Jones (Treva), her Godchild, Kyle Gray Whitman, 14 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Wesley McCloud and Rev. Johnny Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Palmyra United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening, Monday, October 31, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Palmyra UMC Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Sullivan, ICCU nurses and the staff of Forsyth Medical Center for the wonderful care shown to Jimmie.
