Mr. Jimmy Monroe Hailey, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of May 2, 2018. Jim was born on April 12, 1939 in Davidson County to the late Edward Eugene and Mary Jo Hailey. He began his career in the trucking industry with McLean Trucking after graduating from Gray High School in 1957. In 1975, Jim earned a Certificate in Transportation and Traffic Management from Davidson Community College. He continued his career path by accepting a position with Old Dominion Freight Line where he worked in the Traffic Department before being promoted to the Director of the Air Freight Division. Due to a common passion of NASCAR racing with life-long friend Richard Childress they teamed together to form RCR Promotions Show Car Program. While fielding cars driven by the late Dale Earnhardt, Jim grew the RCR/GM Goodwrench show car program from one car in 1988 to a multiple car fleet up to his retirement in 2001. Jim enjoyed a NASCAR driving career from 1962 to 1974 competing in various divisions from Bowman Gray Stadium to Daytona International Speedway including one start in the Winston Cup Grand National Series. He also later became involved in NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Racing as an owner that competed throughout the Southeast winning numerous races. Jim was also a member of the AACA Old Salem Chapter car club where he continued sharing his passion for automobiles proudly displaying his 1936 Studebaker at many events. He was involved with the Purple Heart Foundation helping to bring recognition to our Veterans. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1956 to 1969. He was a member of Sprague Street Baptist Church and later a charter member of Century Park Baptist Church serving the Lord as a trustee, deacon and on various committees. Surviving of the home is his wife Patricia of 60 years, three sons, Ron Hailey(Michelle), Gary Hailey (Penny), Jimmy Hailey Jr (Ginger), four grandsons Matthew Hailey, Devan Hailey, Tyler Hailey, Hunter Hailey, he was preceded in death by a grandson Ryne Hailey. Jim deeply loved all of his family and was passionate about attending his grandsons sporting events with "Trish" by his side, also surviving a sister Judy Holleman and husband Jack, a brother Edward "Skip" Hailey and wife Brenda, preceding him in death, a sister Penny McHone, two brothers Jerry Hailey and Steve Hailey. The family wishes to express a special thanks to all the various medical professionals that cared for Jim. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 5th, 2018 at 11am with Dr. Rob Decker officiating at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens 3250 High Point Road, Winston Salem, NC 27107. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 1411 S. Broad St., Winston Salem, NC 27127. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
