Joan Cooley Porterfield

Mrs. Joan Cooley Porterfield, age 83, of Clemmons, NC, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024. She was born May 25, 1940, in Galax, VA, to the late Thomas George Cooley and Arvie Vernon Cooley. 

Joan retired after 30 years as the store manager at Thalhimers, and then would continue to work in the fashion industry until she was 80. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles Lindsey Porterfield, who passed in July of 2020. She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Porterfield Auten and Olivia Lynn Porterfield Thomas-Dugan and husband Paul; five grandchildren, Danielle Dull (Travis), Seth Thomas (Rachel), Morgan Dugan, Sara-Grace Thomas, and Anna-Elizabeth Dugan; and six great-grandchildren, Mallory, Lilly, Jeremiah, Rowan, Charles and Ameila. She was a loving wife, mother, Grammy and caring friend to all who knew her and was very dedicated to her family. She leaves her family and friends with a lifetime of fun memories, stories and most of all love.  

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Bill Ketner officiating.
