JoAnn Nelson Shields, 92, of King, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Mrs. Shields was born June 14, 1933, in Forsyth County, to Kenneth Bruce Nelson and Lucille Lashmit Nelson. JoAnn retired from R.J. Reynolds after 30 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, where she was an active member of Methodist Women and sang in the choir. She was a person of faith, trusting in God’s goodness, and sharing love and care for others. JoAnn dearly loved her husband, her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved telling of their fun times together. Happy memories were made at the beach collecting shells and fishing with family and friends. In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Kimel Shields; and her brother, Robert L. Nelson.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Kenneth G. Shields (Lois); her daughter, Kathy Seelman (Paul); five grandchildren, Mandy Wardrup (Steven), Jessica Smith (Travis), Stuart Seelman, Cora Seelman, and Amy Seelman; and three great-grandchildren, Connor Smith, Bristol Smith, and Mikayla Wardrup.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 15, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, with Rev. Dr. Paul Seelman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Graveyard Fund.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Priddy Manor, King, NC, for their love and special care of Mom for almost twelve years.
