Joanne Thomas Peddycord

Joanne Thomas Peddycord, 85, of Germanton entered into her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the SECU Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. Joanne was born on March 30,1941 in Greensboro to the late Reverend Raymond “Bud” and Ruth Y. Thomas. Joanne graduated from Kernersville High School. After high school Joanne married the love of her life, Duke Peddycord, on April 2, 1961. They began their lives together in Washington, DC where she worked for the US House of Representatives. After later returning home to live in North Carolina, Joanne worked in the medical field for many years and became a very well-loved allergy nurse for Piedmont Allergies and Asthma Associates in Winston-Salem where she worked and retired after 27 years. Joanne was a faithful member of Woodland Baptist Church for 59 years where she loved singing in the choir and as a soloist. Joanne was also a beloved teacher for the Sunday school class, Heaven’s Child, for special needs children of whom she adored. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Duke Peddycord; two brothers, Raymond Andre Thomas, and Robert Lowell Thomas. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Lisa Denny (Dwight), and April Maynard; five grandchildren, Grayson Denny (Melissa), Whitney Riddle (Thomas), Gabrielle Maynard-Hawley (John), Mariah Maynard (Austin), and Zoey Maynard; four great-granddaughters, Journey Denny, Aubrey and Felicity Davis and Isla Riddle; one brother, Russell Y. Thomas (Yuwadee); niece Grace Thomas, nephew, Stefan Thomas (Angela); sister-in-law, Sonya Sturgill (Dale); special family friend, Larry Cranfill.

A service celebrating Joanne’s life will be held at Woodland Baptist Church, Winston-Salem on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11 am with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. A family visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am-11 am. Joanne will be laid to rest beside her husband at Rural Hall Memorial Park where a graveside service will be held after the service.
