Joe Lunsford

Belews Creek – Mr. Joe Ray Lunsford, 79, passed away May 23, 2019 at his home. Joe was born on December 12, 1939 in Davidson County to the late Thurmond and Mary Lunsford. He grew up in Davidson and Forsyth Counties, and was a graduate of Gray High School. Joe later attended and graduated from Piedmont Aerospace Institute and went on to enjoy a long career in aviation working over 45 years for Piedmont, US Airways and Pace Airlines. He served in the Walkertown Community as President of the Lion’s Club, a member of the Civic Club, Meals on Wheels, and was active at Love’s United Methodist Church, including serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees. Joe had a passion for classic cars and participated in numerous AACA events in North Carolina and South Carolina. He was very proud of his beloved Monte Carlo however, his greatest passion and love was for his family. He was especially proud of his four grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 yeas, Barbara Lunsford, his son, Mark Lunsford (Sharon), a daughter, Michelle (Roy), a brother, Terry (Cheryl), and a sister, Becky (Bill), and four grandchildren, Zachary, Justin, Ethan, and Emaly. there will be a funeral service held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Loves United Methodist Church in Walkertown with Pastor Chip Webb, and Pastor Ray Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be given to Loves United Methodist Church, 3020 Main Street Walkertown, NC 27051, or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home 101 Hospice Lane Winston Salem, NC 27103.
