Joe Wayne Watkins

Mr. Joe Wayne Watkins, 75, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living. He was born November 5, 1939 in Forsyth County to Effie Yokely Watkins and Millard Olden Watkins. Mr. Watkins grew up on Chapel St. in Winston-Salem and attended Central Terrace United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eusebia Moore Petree, Frances Watkins Willard and Lucy Watkins Holland and three brothers, Billie Lee Watkins, O.B. Watkins and Harry B. Watkins. Surviving are three sisters, Idema Watkins Johnson of Clemmons, Bettie Jane Watkins Thrift of Arcadia and Mary Lou Watkins Landingham of Myrtle Beach, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Psalm 91 Church, 930 Michael Rd., Lexington, NC 27295 with Pastor Max Shoaf officiating. Interment will follow in Waughtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The family would like to thank the staff at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living for their care and compassion of Mr. Watkins.
