Mr. John George Bambalis, 86, of Greensboro, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Regency Care in Clemmons. He was born August 24, 1927 in Tampa, FL to George P. and Katherine Bambalis. John was a kind, loving father and husband who always brought a smile to our face. He spent much time in Florida and took his family there on vacations. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was owner of the Picadilly Café and Recreation Billiards. John earned his Bachelor's degree from Carolina in commerce. He liked to travel, dine out, and socialize with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by a brother Pete Bambalis. Surviving are his wife, Shelby L. Bambalis; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan Christian Bambalis and Meredith A. Bambalis; one grandson, Steven J. Bambalis; a sister, Mary Carratt; two nieces, Katherine Whidden and husband Jacques, and Christine Watters; three nephews, Gus Carratt, Arthur Bambalis, George Bambalis and his children, Sophia and Peter Bambalis; cousins, Helen, Emily, Dina, Pauline, and Nikki. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at The Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with a Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m.
