John Early Barney, Sr.

John Barney, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was born on March 28, 1938, to the late James Hayden Barney and Alice Mustin. Married to Martha Lynn Carper (deceased), who was the love of his life.

He was a great mechanic and loved his job at Piedmont Airlines of 36 years. He carried that trait into his retirement by building many things including a 1962 Chevy custom truck.

He was survived by two sisters, Sylvia Poindexter and Shirley Russell; two children; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. 

He loved life with such passion and was loved by many. He had many abilities that led him to become a person that everyone who met him would say “He is such a great and wonderful person, one of a kind.” He will be truly missed.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 6pm-8pm at Hanes Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at Hanes Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 11:00am with Pastor Jason Holley officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
