Mr. John Gray Clayton, 86, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Oak Forest Heath & Rehab in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born November 18, 1932 in Orlando, FL to the late Gray Grover Clayton and Gertrude James Clayton. Mr. Clayton was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a friend to all. He was known as a tremendously hard worker and the owner of John G. Clayton Well Drilling. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Joan Wrenn Clayton; second wife, Dorothy Lee Gentry Clayton; two sons, Charles Robert “Bobby” Clayton and Gary Keith Clayton; two sisters, Shirley Clayton Bennet and Barbara Clayton Yates; and stepson, Tim Albert. He is survived by his son, Jim Clayton (Janet) of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Karen Laney (Roger) of Chipley, FL and Mary Phillips of Kernersville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Duane Albert (Bindy) and Sherri Albert Stewart (Barry). A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 10 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Wes McLeod officiating. Burial will follow at Clayton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Oak Forest Heath & Rehab for their constant care and support through the years.
