Our lives changed forever on February 1, 2012, when John's doctor diagnosed the condition of Alzheimer's. From that day forward he fought a brave fight. John William Davis, 79, passed June 16, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem due to complications of Alzheimer's. He was born to the late Sam Si Davis and Viola Crews Davis June 3, 1938 in Forsyth County. He was a 1956 graduate of Mineral Springs High School, where he met his wife Nancy. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Sam Davis Jr. and James B. Davis Sr., sisters, Doris Yontz and Nancy Woosley and in-laws Ruth and Glen Collier and grandson Dylan Andrew Swaim (2017). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Collier Davis, daughter, Cindy Davis Swaim, husband Andy Swaim and granddaughter Caroline Grace Swaim of Kernersville, also daughter, Karen Davis of Wilmington, NC and her fiancée' James Presley Grice III ""Tripp""; sister in-law, Carolyn Davis and numerous nieces and nephews. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 36 years of service, in the Tobacco Processing Division. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard. He was a longtime member of the Forsyth Lions Club, of which he served several terms as President. He grew up attending Oak Grove Moravian Church and later joined Mineral Springs Baptist church, where he faithfully served prior to his illness. He was a committed follower of his savior and lord Jesus Christ. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1968 and later served as Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, Finance and Pastor Search Committee Member. He also enjoyed many years of membership at Maple Chase Country Club, formerly Pinebrook Country Club. John also loved God, his family, his church, his country, his neighbors and the game of golf. The family would like to thank the special care givers of Hairston Home Care and Mr. Felix Hariston and staff for their unyielding support and loving care they gave John and his family during his illness. Funeral Services will be conducted at Hayworth Miller, Lewisville, North Carolina at 2 pm on Monday, June 19, 2017 with visitation from Noon until 1:45. The Service will be officiated by Dr. Gus Thomas and Dr. Cecil Cave, Jr. Memorials may be made to The Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center at 231 Melrose Street, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
