John Allen Johnson (Johnny) was born April 25, 1940 to the late John Johnson and Madeline (Mary) Bailey Johnson in New York, New York. On December 2, 2013, he departed this world and entered into eternal rest. At the age of 17, he graduated from James Fennimore Cooper High School and joined the United States Air Force where he served four years as a 57150 Firefighter. In 1961 Johnny returned to New York City and held two jobs working as a UPS delivery courier and drove his own Gypsy taxicab until 1965, at which time he became a New York City Transit Cop. A few years later, he transferred to become a New York City Police Officer. His determination was widely applauded by his superiors, who in no time at all, promoted him to Detective of Narcotics. After 13 dedicated years, with the New York City Police department, he retired to pursue his lifelong dream as an entrepreneur. This endeavor led him to pursue a move to Las Vegas. So in 1980, Johnny moved to Las Vegas and began working for Kerr McGee and later the Nevada State Teen Prison system. In 1982, he returned to the law enforcement field as a Taxicab Police Officer in the State of Nevada Taxicab Authority. Again, he ascended to the position of Senior Investigator where he worked until his retirement. Life's turns found him deciding to move back east. Settling in Oxon Hill, Maryland where he was close to family, and visited quite often. Here he honed his internet skills. Tee and Dominique will remember accessing his computer and running into some Grown Folks businessâ¦Priceless. During this time, visited Tacaloban, Philippines where he met Evelyn Ocana. He headed over for 45 days and wound up staying for 4 months. He found his final home in Pfafftown, NC where he, Evelyn, Orly, and Lynneth resided. Johnny was preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Mary Johnson; daughter Johneshia Harris; sisters Helen Dennis, Loretta Johnson and Carol Johnson; and Brother Thomas Smith. He leaves to mourn, his loving and dedicated wife, Evelyn Johnson. His beloved and devoted children, John (Kathy) Johnson; Sharon McPherson; Marc (Jackie) Johnson [Mother: Lorice Johnson]; Carolyn Lynch; and Stacey Johnson [Mother: Roberta Lynch]; Allen Rashaun Johnson and Jessica (Peter) Johnson [Mother: Jeanneth Moret]; Orly (Charisse) Ocana and Lynette Johnson [Mother: Evelyn Johnson]. His beloved grandchildren: Taniqua Springer; Latasha McNeil; John Johnson; Dominique Johnson; Reyna Johnson; Isaiah Campbell; Tianna Sottile; Bryce McPherson; Jailah Campbell; Kylee Johnson; Zander Johnson; Avery Johnson; Allen Johnson; One Great-grand Xavion Johnson. His cherished brother: George (Sylvia) Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. When someone you love passes away, there is a strong temptation to remember them perhaps a little too well. Misdeeds are forgotten. Offenses are forgiven. Only the most shining characteristics of our loved ones make it into the version of them that we keep with us when they depart. Johnny's only fault was leaving behind a wife, eight children, thirteen grandchildren, one great grand and a brother who loved him very much. Johnny/Dad/Pop-Pop/Daddy John will be dearly missed.
