John L. Ketner

John Larry Ketner, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at his home. 

He was born to John Ketner and Violet Immel Ketner on March 19, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from Colombus High School, John enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. John served as an Intelligence Officer on the USS Pueblo submarine where he earned the National Defenses Service Medal. After his discharge, John graduated from OSU/Franklin University. John and Donna (Smales) were married on March 7, 1970, and have recently celebrated their 54^th wedding anniversary.

In 1998, John’s job brought them to North Carolina where he worked and retired from Lydall Thermal Acoustical. He and Donna have been faithful members of Pinedale Christian Church since 1988 where both especially enjoyed being a part of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. John was also an avid golfer and bowler. John’s beautiful smile, quick wit, and clever personality not only entertained his family and friends, but also encouraged those around him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife, Donna; three sisters, Arleen, Jeannie, and Vicki; and cherished nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2:00pm at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Pkwy, with Matthew Sink and Bill McKenzie officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, Donna requests memorial donations be made to Pinedale Christian Church.
