John Duer Moores Jr.

John D. Moores, Jr., 74, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Baltimore, MD on February 5, 1939, the only child of Dr. J. Duer and Lois M. Moores. John graduated from McDonogh School and subsequently joined the Navy in 1961, becoming a Lt. Naval aviator and serving on the USS Hornet through 1966. Upon honorable discharge, he received an undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and an MBA from Cornell University. John worked in NYC as a banker, retiring from Morristown, NJ to Winston-Salem, NC in the past year. John is survived by his two daughters, Lauren Moores of NYC and Devon Burkey of Pfafftown, his son-in-law Kevin Burkey, and four grandchildren: Rob Auchincloss, Jordan Burkey, Eliza Auchincloss and Miles Burkey. He is also survived by extended family on the Eastern Shore, MD. Services will be held privately.
