He was passionate about his job as Program Coordinator for the Heart Strides Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Center and was instrumental in its development. He loved brewing and sampling good beer and sharing his discoveries with others. A skilled craftsman, John added many improvements to their home. He played his guitar with college buddies, Lamar and Mark, and his two sons, Daniel and Matthew. He also loved eating good food, which was always plentiful, prepared by his wife, Ellen. Preceding him in death were his father, Richard Rotroff and brother, Jeff Rotroff. Surviving are his wife and soul mate, Ellen; sons, Daniel and Matthew; brother, Tom; Sister-in-law, Ann; and mother, Marilyn. A private memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 at the home of a family friend in Lewisville. A celebration of his life followed at River Ridge Tap House. The family is grateful for the wonderful care and compassion given by Dr. Thomas Grote throughout John's long struggle with cancer. He epitomizes what it means to be a physician. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made in memory of John to the Heart Strides program. Donations can be made at https://payments.highpointregional.com/giving and by selecting âHeart Strides' as the gift area.
