John Neil Sim

Mr. John Neil Sim, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, January 20th of 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. John was born December 18, 1928 in Troy, New York to James Scott Sim and Marie Spiedel Sim. He grew up in Troy, moving as a teenager with his family to Hyattsville, Maryland. John served nine years with the Maryland National Guard. He worked for the railroad 43 years under the B&O, Chessie and CSX. He retired in 1989 and enjoyed spending winters in Cape Coral, Florida. He relocated to Winston-Salem from Maryland in 2004. John was a member of Heritage Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Sim was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Scott Sim of Alburg, Vermont. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Virginia Sim, his son, Gary Alan Sargent and wife Ruth Horst Sargent; grandchildren Andrea Marie Sargent Brannon and husband Tighe Andrew Brannon, Melissa Lynn Sargent, Darryl Alan Sargent, and Russell Curtis Sargent, and great grandson Patrick Wayne Brannon. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Jennings O'Neil officiating. A private entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Heritage Hills Baptist Church, 1785 Pope Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 in memory of John Neil Sim.
