John Simpson Slate, Jr.

Mr. John Simpson Slate, Jr., 82, passed away on Sunday April 21, 2024, at his home. He was born in Stokes County on March 26, 1942, the son of the late John Simpson Slate, Sr., and Nell Hunter Slate. John enjoyed playing golf, spending time at Lake Norman and messing with cars. He worked as past president of the Stokes County Republican Party. John proudly served our country in the United States Navy. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Marcinkowski Slate; and a son, Kevin Slate. John is survived by a son, Keith Slate (Sherry); two granddaughters, Savannah Lyons (Richie) and Christin Slate; three grandsons, Ryan Slate, Landon Slate, and Devin Slate; two great grandchildren, Carter Slate and Lavender Lyons; one brother, Bobby G. Slate (Cathy); and three nieces, Ashli Nicks, Morgan Martin, and Brooke Bliss. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Greg Hall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Tuesday evening, April 23, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home.
