John Waldon Wood, Sr.

Mr. John Waldon Wood, Sr. 63, passed away on September 28, 2016 at his residence.
Born on July 21, 1953 to William Zeno and Whilma Jean Barnett Wood, Sr. in Forsyth County. John was a veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam conflict. He returned from the service and attended Western Carolina College and went on to the food service industry and became banquet service manager at the Hyatt in downtown Winston Salem. John was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and also working in the garden. He was a man that would help both friends and strangers anytime he could. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ellen Miller Wood of the home and son John Waldon Wood, Jr. of Winston Salem; brother William Z. Wood, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Lewisville; sister Martha Wood Lesher and her husband Tim of Seymore, TN and granddaughter Renee Taylor, two nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be held at the residence on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. with Dr. Worth Green officiating.
