Johnnie David McGlamery

Mr. Johnnie David McGlamery, 95, passed away August 26, 2024, at Village Care of King. He was born in Wilkes County on October 8,1928, to the late Hanabel Hansford McGlamery and Mary Grimes McGlamery. John proudly served in The United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church. John retired from Fredrickson Motor Express with 27 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia Norman McGlamery; two sisters; one brother; and one son-in-law, Skip Smothers. He is survived by two daughters, Pam Smothers, Beverly Holbrook (Scott); one son, Brian; six grandchildren, Justin Smothers (Abbie), Chase Smothers, Matt Holbrook (Brittany), Katie Bingman (Matt), Savannah Willoughby (Cory), and Marissa Willard (Austin);12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde and Dewey McGlamery, and several nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, August 30, 2024, at Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Brad Stamey and Rev. Brian Alverson officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, August 29, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Haworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given by the staff at Village Care and Mountain Valley Hospice.
