Mr. Johnny Alton ""Tunk"" Rumfelt passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Rutherford County, NC on December 11, 1936 to the late Lillie Mae Hill Rumfelt and Hoyle Lester Rumfelt. Mr. Rumfelt proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Baker Construction Company in 1998. Mr. Rumfelt loved NASCAR, working on cars, and his pickup truck; but more than anything, he loved his family. His favorite times were when his whole family was gathered around the table, laughing and enjoying life together.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rumfelt was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest ""Sonny"" Rumfelt and a sister, Floree Arrowood. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Ruby Clontz Rumfelt; four children: Belinda Rumfelt (Rex Blackburn), Alton Rumfelt (Tami), Jason Rumfelt (Cody Tilley), and Ben Rumfelt; six grandchildren: John Peoples, Emily Clark, Ruby Billings, and Andrew, Carley, and Laura Rumfelt; and one sister, Cheryl ""Tootsie"" Roper.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Frank Ancona officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
