Mr. John Wesley “Johnny” Whitman, 86, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County on November 14, 1938, the son of the late Jessie Lee Pardue Whitman and Ralph Gray Whitman. Johnny was of the Baptist faith and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a helicopter mechanic. He owned and operated Whitman Motors and spent his retirement fishing with his loving wife, Adelene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Adelene Watson Whitman; and three brothers, Robert, David and Tommy Whitman. Johnny is survived by one sister, Janet Whitman Andrews (Eddy) of Badin Lake; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Many thank you’s to Shannon (Niece) and Peter Martin for always being there to help him with all his needs. To the staff of Priddy Manor for the loving and outstanding care they provided and most recently the staff of Forsyth Medical Center “5th and 8th floors”.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at King Memorial Park, located on Baptist Dr. in King. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Stokes Shelter, 1111 Dodgetown Rd., Walnut Cove, NC 27052, or to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
