Mrs. Johnsie Widener Ryan, 80, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, April 28, 2017. She was born October 27, 1936 in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late Roby Taylor and Daisy Debusk Widener. Mrs. Ryan was a member of Hope Moravian Church. She volunteered at Forsyth Medical Center and was President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Griffith Fire Department for ten years, where she was the first woman board member. She loved arts and crafts and was an avid cook and canner. She also enjoyed playing bingo, card games and vacationing at White Lake. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and over the years, influenced many children by babysitting. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Ryan; one son, Robert Ryan; three daughters, Debra Downham and husband, Terry; Lynn Hatcher and husband, John; and Elaine Ryan; one granddaughter, Brandy Thomas, with husband, Jordan; and one grandson, Ryan Steen; and two great grandchildren, Kelsey Thomas and Lyla Thomas. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Hope Moravian Church with Pastor Andrew Heil officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
